Whale shark skin is covered with millions of scutes (dermal denticles), these tiny tooth-like structures are made of dentin, the same material as human teeth! They function like sandpaper, reducing water resistance and are even antibacterial. One fish had over 3,000 teeth around its iris!Whale sharks do not have swim bladders (ordinary fish rely on swim bladders to adjust buoyancy), but instead store a large amount of low-density fat in their livers, which act like a life buoy suspended in the water. The liver of an adult whale shark weighs 1.8 tons, which is equivalent to a car!
